At Morgan Family Dentistry, Dr. Morgan and our team might recommend a filling if you have a tooth that needs restoration. We are pleased to offer dental fillings that are made from either composite resin or amalgam. Composite resins are tooth-colored fillings that are strong and fracture resistant. They work well for small- to mid-size fillings that need to withstand moderate pressure from the constant stress of chewing. They can be used on either front or back teeth. They are a good choice for people who prefer that their fillings look more natural.

While no dental filling will last forever, composites can be less durable than amalgam or gold fillings and may need to be replaced sooner. Composites cost more than amalgam and occasionally are not covered by some insurance plans.

Because composite fillings require the tooth be kept clean and dry while the cavity is being filled, it can take a little longer to complete a composite filling than a metal one. Tooth-colored composite fillings are now used more often than amalgam or gold fillings, primarily for their cosmetic benefits.
